Welcome, Riga Metro!
August/September 2014
Installation, marker on wall, inkjet prints, 300 stickers around Riga
The Riga Metro was planned during the 1970s and 1980s in Soviet Latvia, but due to vehement opposition, the project was repeatedly delayed and forgotten about when the Soviet Union collapsed. For the 2014 contemporary art festival Survival Kit in Riga, under the theme of "the Utopian city," I researched the history of the metro, updated the metro map for present-day Riga, and designed an installation, logo, sample stations and information posters on the history and future potential of a Riga Metro. Stickers advertising the new stations and new metro map were put up around the city in the weeks leading up to the exhibition.
